On Wednesday 17th December 2025, JBS had the pleasure of hosting a fantastic event to mark International Eliminate of Violence Against Sex Workers Day.

For the most important event in the sex workers rights movements' calendar, we were able to bring together sex workers and allies, social care practitioners, old friends and new, for a wonderful afternoon of fascinating presentations and discussions.

Our three fantastic speakers were Dr Max Morris, Dr Hanna Stegeman and Dr Rosa Vince.

Max is a Green Party councillor in Oxford and senior lecturer in criminology based at Oxford Brookes University. Their presentation gave us a snapshot into their research on the experience of young LGBTQ+ individuals involved in casual forms of sex work through digital/social media platforms.

Hanna is a researcher currently based at Exeter University, and specialises in the experience of online sex workers across Europe. Her presentation gave us insight into her expertise and knowledge of digital sex work/labour markets.

Rosa is a research fellow based at the University of Leeds, and specialises in sex and objectification. Her presentation focused primarily on objectification in adult entertainment.

As well as their brilliant presentations, we were treated to a panel discussion, which allowed for audience participation and sparked some really fruitful and important discussions about the issues raised.

Please follow the links to find out more about each of them!

We also took the opportunity to say goodbye to our Secretary, Sally Cass, and our Treasurer, Richard Hall. Sally has been a part of JBS for many years, and a wonderful secretary since 2010. Her husband Richard very kindly came on board to be our temporary Treasurer, and dutifully stayed in the role for three years! We thank them both for their important contributions over the years, and they'll both be missed.

Thankfully we have already managed to replace Richard with the fantastic Kate Bridger, and were able to mark this passing of the torch at the event as well.

Thanks so much to everyone who came. It was a fantastic turnout, and we hope to expand upon its success at our next event to mark International Sex Workers Day on the 2nd June. Keep an eye out for details, and see you there!
